New Director Hired

At the start of the 2002 school year, the band once again hired a new director, the second director since Shawn Dunn left in 2001.  Mrs. Lisa Ashworth came from Cabell Midland and brought new hope to the band.  It was not a secret that the band was in need of a strong leader following the band's previous unsuccessful season.  In her first year, she was able to bring some much needed discipline to the program.

Thank You Band Boosters

A debt of gratitude is owed to the Band Booster officers who resigned in the spring of 2003.  Vice President Mark Litteral and Treasurer Carol Spurlock dedicated five years to the organization and held an office for at least four of those years.  Following those two individuals are President Carl Whitley and Secretary Cindy McComas, who each gave four years to the Band Boosters.  Spouses Cindy Whitley and Dave McComas were also members of the boosters who each gave four years.  This group of individuals had several accomplishments during some difficult times.  They worked though several transitions at the band director's position, seeing three directors in three years.  It's difficult for a group to constantly adjust to a new person and that person's style, but they were able to and contributed their resources and time more than ever to keep the program running successfully.  They succeeded at holding the band together, especially financially.  When they entered their offices, a massive $40,000 fundraising effort was underway for a trip to Florida in 2000, which was successful.  They gave members a nice trip to Cedar Point in the spring of 2002, and as they left office, began massive fundraising efforts to purchase new uniforms, which did come to fruition.  They, their leadership, and the contributions will always be remembered.
