Mr. Brent Hunt Band Director Brent J. Hunt is currently in his second year as the band director at South Point Local Schools in South Point, OH. In this time, the marching band has qualified for OMEA State Finals both years receiving "Excellent" ratings and earned the honor of "Grand Champion Band" at three contests in the '09 season. The concert band has grown from 22 to 63 members and continues to see more involvement in honors band and students studying privately. For six years prior to teaching at South Point, Brent was the director of bands at Green High School, his alma mater, in Franklin Furnace, OH. During his time at Green, the marching band received six superior ratings at OMEA State Finals and the concert band received both excellent and superior ratings at State Large Group Adjudicated events. At Green, Brent was also the director of the concert choir which received the school’s first superior rating at district large group contest. Brent served as co-chair of OMEA District XVII Large Group Contest in 2007 and has served on the OMEA adjudicated events music selection committee. Brent’s educational training began at The Ohio State University from 1996-1997 where he played trumpet for the Ohio State University Marching Band and marched on New Year's Day 1997 in "The Tournament of Roses Parade". Mr Hunt finished his undergraduate at Capital University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 2000. Brent enjoys working in the Summer as an arranger and drill designer for marching bands in both central and southern Ohio as well as composing original music for South Point’s marching band. Brent will begin his master’s in Music Education this summer at Vandercook's school of Music in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Josh Lear Color Guard Advisor Joshua Lear is a native of Lexington, Kentucky and a graduate of Henry Clay High School. While marching at Henry Clay the band was named the MSBA class AAA Champion in 2004 and 2005, and was also the KMEA class AAA state runner-up in 2004. He has marched several color guard programs such as Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps, X Performance Ensemble, and the WGI World Class Finalist, Onyx World Winterguard. This is Josh's second year with the South Point High School Color Guard and is very excited about their potential as the program builds.

Mr. Jamie Martin Percussion Instructor Jamie first served as South Point's Percussion Instructor during the 2007 marching season. He is the Co-Founder, Director, Battery Arranger and Tenor Technician for the Optima Indoor Percussion Ensemble. In 1992, Jamie was a member of the National Champion Morehead State University Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble. He has performed with the New Orleans Philharmonic (LA), the Lynchburg Symphony (VA), the Roanoke Symphony (VA), the New River Chamber Winds (VA), the Flat Baroque Marimba Quartet (WVA), and currently performs on drum set with pianist Shane Kiester (internationally known for his recordings/tours with Elvis Presley, Billy Joel, Elton John, Celine Dion and Amy Grant). Jamie has studied percussion with Frank Oddis (Morehead State University), Al Wojtera (Radford University), Ben Miller (Marshall University), Steve Hall (Marshall University), conducting/composition with internationally recognized conductor/composer Mark Camphouse (Radford University) and marimba exclusively with keyboard virtuoso Gordon Stout (Ithaca College of Music). As a clinician/educator, Jamie has presented both marimba and marching percussion clinics in multiple states up and down the east coast and has been a featured marimba clinician for both the West Virginia and Virginia Days of Percussion in past years. He has been a selected performer for numerous master classes on marimba by such artists as Gordon Stout, Andy Harnsberger, and Nexus. Mr. Martin also placed 8th at the 1996 PASIC College Keyboard Competition in Nashville, TN. Jamie currently resides in Wheelersburg, Ohio with his wife Leslie. Mr. Martin is currently an education endorser/clinician for Pro-Mark sticks and mallets.
